Why Did I Choose the Sony A7Riii?
“What do you shoot with?”
“What do you shoot with?” Every photographer’s favorite question. You can tell a lot about a photographer by the camera they use. I find a lot of seasoned photographers like to use Canon. Canon seems especially popular among travel and landscape photographers. Nikon users often are pretty impressive photographers as well and can photograph a little bit of everything. Fuji shooters are the type that want to be different as Fuji has a pretty unique feel to them. And I find Sony is really popular among the younger generation. This is just my experience. And I’m really generalizing.
If you want to get good fast, study portrait photography.
I consider myself part of the newer generation of photographers. And most of my tips and tricks were picked up from photographers who are younger than me. Which is exactly what lead me to choose Sony.
My biggest inspirations during my earliest days of learning was a group of young portrait photographers. Many were from different parts of the west coast but with social media it seemed at times that they were in their own clique. Anyway, these were the people I actually learned a lot from.
When learning photography I highly recommend a strong emphasis in studying portrait photography. It gave my photography a certain quality that I don’t think I would have otherwise been able to achieve.
Now, these portrait photographers all had varying styles. But what they all had in common was high detail and vibrant color. This is something the Sony A7Riii does exceptionally well. Now it’s all in the edit but the Sony cameras have ability to give a very modern almost futuristic aesthetic.
That’s what lead me to purchase the Sony A7Riii
And so that’s what lead me to purchase the Sony A7Riii in September of 2018. I had only been pursuing photography professionally for 1 year. So really at the time I had no idea what I was doing. Do I regret purchasing the camera? For about a year or two I felt the camera was actually a bit out of my league and maybe overkill. The video capabilities are also quite impressive and to this day I have never done any professional video work. But what I have done is achieved some pretty impressive images. And yes, I’ve captured lots of detail and vibrant colors.
The Sony A7Riii was released about 5 years ago and just last week Sony announced the Sony A7Rv (the 5th generation of the same camera.) If I had the choice to upgrade would I do it? Actually no. I really mean that. The Sony A7riii has become an extension of my body. It basically never lets me down. And the quality of the images never disappoint. Do I need more detail or more colors? No. Honestly, I believe the Sony A7Riii is one of the best cameras you can buy for the price range. I strongly recommend it. And there has been a significant price drop in the past year and you can expect another price drop before the end of the year.
Pricing for the newer version Sony A7RiiiA is about $2500 brand new. It’s a bit unusual that they made an updated version of the camera. But honestly, its all the more reason to buy it. Look out for sales like I did. Or buy used which I highly recommend as long as you purchase from a reputable establishment like I always do. I buy all my gear and equipment from Adorama. Located in midtown Manhattan on West 18th Street. It sounds like I’m sponsored by them but I’m not.
Anyway, y’all have a good day or night!
